Instructor Certification Standards Committee

The Climbing Wall Association has developed consensus standards for certified climbing wall instructors and climbing wall instructor trainers (providers). Engineering Standards Committee

The CWA develops engineering standards in two key areas: standards for the design and engineering of manufactured climbing structures and structural inspection standards for climbing walls. The CWA sponsors the Engineering Standards Committee, which is responsible for the development, maintenance, revision and interpretation of these specifications. CWA engineering standards are intended to assist architects, designers, engineers, inspectors and builders in determining adequate parameters for the design, engineering and inspection of manufactured climbing structures. CWA engineering standards relate to actual conditions of use and may address: materials, strength of materials, standard test methods, product testing procedures, definitions of technical or trade terms, product specifications, labeling standards, commercial practices, or other information that provides guidance to the industry. The engineering standards do not purport to address the safety concerns associated with the operation or use of a manufactured climbing structure. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to consult pertinent operational standards, establish appropriate safety and health practices, and to determine the applicability of any regulatory requirements prior to use. Industry Practices Committee

The Industry Practices Committee works on the development and maintenance of guidelines, recommendations, and practices concerning the management and operation of climbing walls CWA Industry Practices are intended to assist owners and operators of climbing facilities in the management and operation of those facilities and in developing sound risk management plans.
