What is the CWA Work at Height Certification Program?

The focus of the WAH certification program is to train and certify people to work-at-height and perform prompt rescues at-height in accordance with industry practices in climbing facilities.

The Work at Height program builds its content over time so you will go through each level to earn your desired level of certification:

WAH Level 1

WAH Level 2

WAH Level 3

When you register, you can select these courses individually or enroll in a bundled course that will guide you through the full certification process to your desired level.

Course descriptions:

WAH Level 1 - qualified to work as an authorized worker

The new CWA WAH Level 1 course teaches candidates the skills needed to be authorized workers in a climbing facility. This course has online course work and one 8-hour in-person day. All necessary equipment provided.

The course covers:

  • Key concepts related to working in a climbing gym at height
  • The key personal protective equipment required to work at height
  • Efficient, effective, and compliant methods for accessing a work area
  • Use of ladders for routesetting
  • Fall protection systems
  • Technical rope access skills
  • Rescue skills
  • Material handling

WAH Level 2 - qualified to work as a competent worker

The CWA WAH Level 2 course teaches candidates the skills needed to be competent workers in a climbing facility. This course will be two, 8-hour in-person days and one half-day assessment. All necessary equipment will be provided.

The course covers:

  • Key concepts related to working in a climbing gym at height
  • The key personal protective equipment required to work at height
  • Efficient, effective, and compliant methods for accessing a work area
  • Demonstrate sound judgment
  • Identify and eliminate existing and predictable hazards with corrective measures
  • Enact a Rescue plan
  • Supervise work at height activities
REFUND POLICY
  • Refund request 30 days in advance of the start date, 95% of total course cost is given.
  • Refund request 14 days in advance of the start date, 75% of the total course cost is given.
  • Refund requests within 14 days of the start date, are reviewed and at the discretion of the organization.
  • Once you start the online course, a refund is no longer an option.

PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENTS
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to belay with a recognized belay device
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Completion of WAH Level 1 (this can be combined at registration)
  • Ability to ascend a fixed line at the time of the course
REQUIRED TRAINING & DEADLINES
